Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a technical term for a standardized transport protocol used in communications systems. Essentially, it works alongside Voice Over IP (VoIP) for session management. So what is 'session management' and what are 'transport protocols'? They are technical terms for facilitaing the communication between equipment. SIP is used to log into equipment, initiate calls, communicate with voicemail and most other hidden conversations required to make/place/receive calls.
While SIP is still considering an emerging technology, SIP has been widely in use since its official adoption by 3rd Generation Partnership Project. SIP has been a silent player in the telecommunications industry for nearly a decade.
Our SIP-based equipment, takes your analog voice and converts it into Internet Protocol (IP) packets, so it can be transmitted across exisiting data pipelines (broadband Internet, T1, fiber, etc). Twist Networks provides dedicated voice pathways across your existing data connections as well as physical SIP-based phone system hardware. This bypasses typical fees and charges imposed by traditional telecommunications carriers and allows us to pass the savings on to the customer!
